Housing and Urban Development schemes provide pucca houses, basic civic amenities, water supply, and slum redevelopment to homeless and low-income citizens across rural and urban India. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and Ministry of Rural Development oversee these programs.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-Urban and PMAY-Gramin) has sanctioned millions of housing units, offering upfront financial subsidies (up to ₹2.5 Lakh) and credit-linked interest subsidies to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Lower Income Groups (LIG).
The programs ensure that every allotted house has attached sanitary toilets, clean drinking water connections under Jal Jeevan Mission, electricity under Saubhagya, and LPG connections under Ujjwala.
