About the Scheme
While the first phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission achieved the "Open Defecation Free" (ODF) status for India by building millions of toilets, Phase II (ODF Plus) is currently active to ensure that nobody is left behind, especially newly formed families or those whose old toilets collapsed.
Exact Financials & Hidden Rules
- The ₹12,000 Incentive: The government provides a flat ₹12,000 direct benefit transfer (DBT) to eligible families to construct an Individual Household Latrine (IHHL). This money is meant to cover the cost of the twin-pit structure and the superstructure.
- The "Double Dipping" Exclusion: If your father or head of household previously received money to build a toilet under any government scheme (even 10 years ago), you cannot apply again for the same house. The system checks your Aadhaar and family data to prevent double claims.
- The Geo-tagging Verification: You do not get ₹12,000 just for filling out a form. The block official will visit your house, take a geo-tagged photo of the empty land, and then take a photo of the completed toilet before the final money is released into your bank account.
Eligibility Criteria
- BPL Households: All Below Poverty Line families are automatically eligible.
- APL Households (Restricted): Above Poverty Line families are only eligible if they fall into specific vulnerable categories: SC/ST households. Households headed by women. Households with physically handicapped persons. Small and marginal farmers.
